The Story Of NWPCU
In over 95 years of serving our members, our mission has remained steady: NW Priority Credit Union is member-owned and dedicated to helping our members meet their financial goals.
Member Owned
Every credit union member is an owner who has a vote and a share in the credit union. We distribute earnings in the form of dividends, lower rates, free financial education, and more.
Giving Back
Service is what we do best. We care deeply about our members and the communities we serve. So, naturally, we are involved in several community service projects.
Full Service
As the oldest chartered credit union in the Pacific Northwest, we’ve looked out for generations of members: parents, children, and grandchildren.
“NW Priority Credit Union is convenient, honest, easy to deal with and helpful. The credit union is always available by phone. Thank you.
Vivian Sartor | Member since 1999
Our roots go deep in the Pacific Northwest
On June 18, 1928, nine postal workers came together to do the impossible: they each chipped in $5 to help their neighbors in need.
Within a year, what was then the Portland Postal Employees Credit Union grew to a membership of 239, with a share capital of $10,000 and 74 loans under its belt.
We have made it our mission to put the “people helping people” philosophy at the forefront of everything that we do.

“I have been using NWPCU since it was Portland Postal Employees Credit Union. Jean always calls me by my name and is so kind. She is a real asset to NWPCU.”

Community centered membership
We’ve opened our membership to include military, government, labor unions, local and state companies, and organizations that share our passion for and dedication to our communities. As a result, we’ve grown our family to more than 16,000 members! See our full list of who’s eligible to join.
Though we’re now called NW Priority Credit Union, we continue our tradition of personal service and financial stability. We believe, just as our nine hard-working founders did, that the more we all share, the more we all have.
We remain dedicated to supporting the community that we have been a part of for 95 years and rewarding the people who have helped us become who we are today.
